The Japanese manufacturer Subaru created advanced technologies with boxer engines and their symmetrical 4WD technology which are used in most of their reliable vehicles making for exceptional success in rally racing.
The All Wheel Drive technology (AWD) came into being in 1966 making this a standard equipment in all the Subaru vehicles. Many vehicles also provide turbo alternatives. Two such vehicles, the Subaru Liberty (also known as Legacy in other markets) and the Subaru Impreza WRX claims great success in rally motorsport (WRC). The WRX STI is Subaru’s higher end performance vehicle with special versions being released. The WRX STI Type RA set a record lap for a 4 door sedan at the famous Nurburgring track in an amazing blistering lap that was under 7 minutes in 2017. It was driven by 25-year-old Richie Stanaway. Lengendary rally driver Mark Higgins has set the four-wheeled record at the Isle of Man many times in his Subaru WRX STI.
Subaru has developed high performing, great quality, AWD in their compact cars and has continued to expand their range to include more recent such models as the Subaru XV, Subaru BRZ, Crosstrek and Levorg. With the BRZ that was jointly developed by Subaru and Toyota, Subaru broke with tradition in a number of ways including it being 2WD instead of Subaru’s famous All Wheel Drive and was it’s first car to be sold online in Australia. Subaru also plan to expand it’s range to include a 3 row SUV.
